Collaborative. Integrative. Practical. Mindful

Therapy

Leanne believes that therapy is a collaborative process and that therapeutic goals are best achieved using an integrative approach developed to suit the individual needs of the client. Leanne refers to various therapeutic models rich in theoretical frameworks, effective techniques and empirical evidence. Leanne appreciates a psychodynamic model which facilitates deep insight and understanding, a cognitive-behavioural approach (CBT) which aims to improve day-to-day coping strategies, mindfulness which relates to purposeful and non-judgemental awareness and presence and play therapy allows children to express themselves in a language that is familiar to them.

When working with children, Leanne refers to approaches considerate of a child’s developmental age and stage. Leanne works with the child or adolescent in the context of their family system. Accordingly, parents are expected to be directly involved throughout their child’s therapy as this is an integral factor in therapeutic success. Throughout the process, Leanne places significant value in helping parents understand the purpose or manifestation of their child’s symptoms. Leanne draws knowledge from attachment-based frameworks which highlight the significance of attachments as strong predictors of a child’s psychological well-being. Practical strategies are also offered to reduce problematic behaviours, increase adaptive coping and strength relationships.

Leanne is always mindful that the most important element in a successful therapeutic experience is the relationship. Leanne’s style is compassionate, warm, kind and honest.
